Lazelle graduated from the University of Natal with BCom and LLB degrees in 1994 and was admitted as an attorney, notary, and conveyancer in 1996. She began her legal career specialising in local government law and conveyancing, becoming a partner in the property department of a Johannesburg law firm focused on municipal law. In 2000, she relocated to KwaZulu-Natal to join a prominent Durban firm as a partner. In 2006, Lazelle co-founded Halstead Paola, which later merged with Cox Yeats in 2016.
With more than two decades of experience, Lazelle specialises in property, commercial and notarial work, conveyancing, and local government law—including town planning and litigation. She acts for major financial institutions, multinational companies, homeowners’ associations, body corporates, and other community schemes across the country. Her litigation experience includes appearances in the Magistrates’ and High Courts, the Supreme Court of Appeal, and before various industry regulatory bodies.
Within her town planning practice, Lazelle has regularly appeared before the Town Planning Appeals Board, the Development Tribunal (under the Development Facilitation Act), the Development Appeals Tribunal (KZN), and numerous municipal appeal structures. She has played a key role in a number of high-profile developments and is widely recognised for her expertise in community schemes law, particularly in the establishment and administration of residential estates throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
