Marie-Louise is an Associate in the Business Rescue, Restructuring & Insolvency team at Cox Yeats.
She began her legal career with the South African Human Rights Commission in the North West Province, where she formed part of the provincial legal team advising on constitutional and human rights matters. During this time, she gained valuable experience in mediation, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution, including stakeholder engagements following the 2018 Koster and Reagile unrest.
Marie-Louise later moved into commercial litigation, where she advised on banking, commercial recovery, contractual disputes, National Credit Act litigation, foreclosures, debt recovery, and asset repossessions. She subsequently specialised in international indirect tax and cross-border VAT recovery, advising multinational clients on VAT reclaims, regulatory compliance, and disputes before foreign revenue authorities.
Her practice focuses on business rescue, restructuring, insolvency, commercial litigation, and banking law. She also has a particular interest in the intersection of law and technology, including the responsible implementation of AI to enhance legal processes while maintaining rigorous legal analysis.
